SPREAD OF COMPUTERS

Computers are high-tech devices. Their primitive forms were used to make simple calculations. Today they have got various and much complicated uses.

In the past they were rare devices. Most people did not even have a chance to touch one. Today many of us have computers. The most important two reasons for this development are the decrease in their prices and the increase in their uses. Another significant reason seems that they have become compatible with everyday life.

First computers were as big as a house, in which case it was unthinkable to install one in anybody’s house. Today, however, their weight can be as little as 2 kilos. Also in the past many people would not find them very useful even if they had houses big enough to install one. They were basically used to make mathematical calculations. But today they have a large variety of uses ranging from keeping big companies’ accounts to playing games. So they are incomparably more attractive today. Another significant reason behind the rise of computers is the price, of course. Even the richest men would not think of buying a computer in the early phases of the computer age because of the high cost. In time, the prices fell sharply and people began owning computers. They are getting much cheaper indeed. Ten years ago, for example, it would require at least a thousand dollars to acquire a computer good enough to meet simple personal needs such as processing documents ands playing games. Today, 500 dollars will be more than sufficient to meet demands more complicated than these. So, in time, computers have become more economical, functional and compatible. As a result, more people have computers today.

Computers were a mystery in the past as few people really knew anything about them. Today many people, including children, own computers. This incredible change has taken place due to the positive changes in the price, use, and size of computers.
