A) READING A PLACE OF MY OWN
When Rod first started his job in Western, he stayed in the factory hostel. The hostel served only breakfast, so Rod had lunch in the canteen at work. When he finished work, he usually went to a cheap self-service restaurant for his evening meal.
He didn’t enjoy living in the hostel very much, so he decided to find a flat to rent. He soon found one just outside Bristol. It was quite a big flat on the top floor of a house. It was the house of Joan and Norman Ingrains. The rent was very expensive and there were two bedrooms, so he decided to share the flat with someone. One morning he put an-advertisement in the local newsagent’s window.
The same day, a young student went to the newsagent to buy a paper. His name was Paul Blake. When he saw the advertisement, he telephoned Rod immediately and wanted to see the flat. Rod liked the flat very much and accepted to pay half of the rent.
