Her \u015feyden \u00f6nce; ba\u011f\u0131ms\u0131zd\u0131r, ufuklar\u0131 alabildi\u011fine geni\u015ftir, dar kal\u0131plar ve kurallar i\u00e7inde tan\u0131mlanamaz. Konular\u0131 olduk\u00e7a bol ve s\u0131n\u0131rs\u0131zd\u0131r. Do\u011fall\u0131\u011f\u0131n ve i\u00e7tenli\u011fin en \u00e7ekici belgesidir. Elbette ki herkese ayn\u0131 i\u00e7tenlikle mektup yaz\u0131lamaz. G\u00f6nderdi\u011finiz ki\u015fi ya da kurumla olan ilginin derecesine g\u00f6re mektubun hitap b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcnden sonu\u00e7 b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcne kadar de\u011fi\u015fen \u00fcslup \u00f6zelli\u011fi vard\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Mektuplarda dil farkl\u0131 i\u015flevlerde kullan\u0131labilir: Olay, durum, ki\u015fi vs. ile ilgili bilgilerin aktar\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131 b\u00f6l\u00fcmlerde g\u00f6ndergesel i\u015flev, konuyla ilgili duygu ve heyecanlar\u0131n dile getirildi\u011fi b\u00f6l\u00fcmlerde heyecana ba\u011fl\u0131 i\u015flev, g\u00f6ndericinin al\u0131c\u0131dan bir \u015feyler yapmas\u0131n\u0131 istedi\u011fi b\u00f6l\u00fcmlerde ise al\u0131c\u0131y\u0131 harekete ge\u00e7irme i\u015flevi kullan\u0131l\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00fcnyada bilinen ilk mektup \u00f6rnekleri M\u0131s\u0131r firavunlar\u0131 (M\u00d6 15.14. y\u00fczy\u0131l) ve Hitit krallar\u0131n\u0131n mektuplar\u0131d\u0131r.<br \/>\nMektubun d\u00fcnyada yayg\u0131n bir bi\u00e7imde kullan\u0131m\u0131 16. 17. y\u00fczy\u0131ldan itibaren ba\u015flar. Bizde devlet adamlar\u0131n\u0131n di\u011fer devlet adamlar\u0131na g\u00f6nderdikleri siyasi i\u00e7erikli yaz\u0131lar, bu t\u00fcr\u00fcn ilk \u00f6rnekleri say\u0131labilir. Mektup, 19. y\u00fczy\u0131ldan itibaren posta hizmetleriyle yayg\u0131nla\u015fm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Divan edebiyat\u0131nda mektuplar\u0131n topland\u0131\u011f\u0131 eserlere \u201c<strong>mektubat<\/strong>\u201d denir.
