Bahriye Okulu&#8217;na gitmi\u015f, \u0130ngilizce ve Frans\u0131zca \u00f6\u011frenmi\u015ftir. Yak\u0131ndan takip etti\u011fi Halit Ziya&#8217;n\u0131n eserlerine ve realizm ak\u0131m\u0131na ilgi duymu\u015ftur. Frans\u0131z yazar Paul Bourget&#8217;yi okudu ve ondan etkilendi. 1896 y\u0131l\u0131ndan itibaren Servet-i F\u00fcn\u00fbn&#8217;da yazmaya ba\u015flad\u0131. Roman,hikaye ve tiyatro t\u00fcr\u00fcnde eserler vermi\u015ftir.Psikolojik tahlillere b\u00fcy\u00fck \u00f6nem verir.Bu y\u00fczden eserlerinde kahraman say\u0131s\u0131 azd\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Romanlar\u0131nda genelde \u0130stanbul ve \u00e7evresinde ya\u015fayan se\u00e7kin ailelerin aras\u0131nda ge\u00e7en a\u015fk ili\u015fkilerini konu alm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Ama Leman&#8217;\u0131n sadece Pertev&#8217;le ili\u015fkisi yoktur. Leman Pertev&#8217;le evlenebilmek i\u00e7in ona plan kurar. Ama u\u015fa\u011f\u0131 Be\u015fir&#8217;le beraber yakalan\u0131nca her \u015fey ortaya \u00e7\u0131kar. Pertev, son derece efendi biri olan eni\u015ftesi Ferit Bey&#8217;in tavsiyelerine uyar. M\u00fcstakbel e\u015fini faziletli kad\u0131nlar aras\u0131ndan se\u00e7ecektir. Vasfi ise Ferdiye&#8217;nin kocas\u0131 taraf\u0131ndan yaralan\u0131nca, \u015fefkati, ilgiyi yine terketti\u011fi kar\u0131s\u0131nda bulur.<br \/>\nSansar (1920): Asl\u0131nda teyzesinin o\u011flu Azmi&#8217;yi seven Lamia zorla Refik&#8217;le evlendirilir. Evin kahyas\u0131, \u00e7\u0131kard\u0131\u011f\u0131 dedikodular\u0131yla Refik&#8217;in Lamia ve Azmi&#8217;yi \u00f6ld\u00fcrmesine zemin haz\u0131rlar.<br \/>\nCidal (1911): Paris&#8217;te okumu\u015f olan Mecdi, halas\u0131n\u0131n k\u0131z\u0131 Nesime ile evlenir. Bir s\u00fcre sonra halas\u0131n\u0131n gelini Behice ile gizli bir ili\u015fki ya\u015far. Bu i\u015f meydana \u00e7\u0131kmadan Behice&#8217;nin e\u015finin ba\u015fka bir yere tayini \u00e7\u0131kar ve giderler. Mecdi de evlili\u011fine d\u00f6ner. Bu eserde g\u00fczel sanatlar \u00f6nemli bir yer tutar.<br \/>\nDiken (1911): Nafi Bey, kar\u0131s\u0131na ve k\u0131z\u0131 Bihter&#8217;e para yeti\u015ftiremez ve onlar \u00fczerinde bir otoritesi yoktur. Mahallenin zengini olan Hami Bey yanl\u0131\u015fl\u0131kla Bihter&#8217;i ister.
